You'll have to take this with a grain of salt, as different axes are crafted with different end task in mind - and we've written plenty about the occasions to use, buy or gift one. In fact, you can take our AXEssment Here which will help best determine which axe is best for the job at hand.
With all that aside, as a good rule of thumb, you should measure yourself per the instructions below. Trying to get within the ballpark of +/-2 inches is probably safe.
I just measured myself and registered in at 28 inches. This lines up perfectly, as my favorite, most often used axe to swing is my vintage 27.5" Boys Axe.
